Perak Golf Tour

Another golf outing to Perak. This time around at Clearwater Sanctuary and Meru Valley.

Clearwater Sanctuary, Batu Gajah, Perak. Nice long course with not many players even on long weekends. Maybe because the golfing fee is too steep ! Nice relaxing round eventhough the heat is almost unbearable at times.

Round 2 at Meru Valley, Ipoh. I like the first course compared to this one ;-)

Sesi meracun berjaya menodai four new members...now we've seven members in the cycling club !

Great selection and reasonable price @ tukang basikal fook sang @ sg way. Price at kedai basikal @ damansara utama (close to village park) is sky high. Another shop @ damansara perdana is also pricey.

Under the watchful eyes of the director ;-) hehehe

Time Flies...

How time flies !!! We're almost at the end of Jan 2012...i can still "hear" the loud fireworks being played on 1.1.12 @ 0000hrs. And almost a month gone now...Anyway, here's some updates...

Bought ourselves two folding bikes earlier this month. Comfortable to ride and easy to transport. This is to provide the family with another option for activities. So far i've been riding almost daily and in the process getting my backside and the saddle friendly to each other ;-)

We went back to Sedim during the CNY hols...wrong turn and we ended up in Padang Besaq ...hehehe...still the same except there's new shoplots next to the bazaar complex...tak dak gambaq la pulok -:-(

Main activity at Sedim...makan minum makan minum. Now cempedak time...mannnngaaiii...sodappp, rangup, just nice !!! and balik wa up 2kgs !

Another favourite activity at Sedim is photo taking. Many subjects...just snap what you like !

And of course, boys will be boys ! Judin with the foldie MTB going up and down the slope...

Youngest @ 5 yrs old and eldest @ 78 yrs old in the family.

Golfing in Perak

A quick break and off we went to Lumut for a small golfing buddies reunion.

The destination...accomodation and golf venue for Day 1 and Day 2 is at Swiss-Garden Golf Resort & Spa at Damai Laut, Lumut. Nice place though quite a lot of people due to school holidays. The hotel is ok. I'd say the golf course is on the easy side. Buggy to everywhere except teebox, bunker and green. Repeatable for a relaxing golf game. Slightly pricey.

Our traditional enemy in actions ! Sorang cakap dengan bola, sorang cakap dengan fairway...

And ended-up hugging the trees !

Day 3 is at Meru Valley in Ipoh. Nice view but soggy course probably due to the rainy season.

Team ZaiHas won on Day 1 and Day 2...so on Day 3 we bought ourselves kuaci ! Makan atas buggy enjoying the scenery...hehehe !!! MF and NC, please try harder next time !

Yogyakarta ~ Dec 2011

Finally, we managed to make our 1st visit to Yogyakarta earlier this month.

Yes, on AirAsia. Morning flite out to JOG and morning flite back to KUL.

Hmmm...expensive device for Solitaire ;-)

Welcome to Jogja...touched down at Adisucipto International Airport.about 0830hrs as scheduled with wonderful weather ! I'd say the airport is similar to Bandung. 2 rows lining-up at the immigration with 3 officers serving the just-landed fully-loaded Airbus. Took 50 minutes from landing on the tarmac to the landing in the Sheraton van picking us up to the hotel !

The 3-stooges has arrived...see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil !

Our lodging for the 3 nites...Sheraton Mustika Yogyakarta. We got ourselves the Arimbi Junior suite. Sizeable room with expected quality from such hotel. The hotel itself is just 2 traffic-lights (about 5 mins) from the airport. But, according to one of the cab drivers, this hotel sits too far out from the town...that might explains the "soulless" environment at the hotel.

Nice landscape at the rear of the hotel. And the view of Mt Merapi from the lounge and our room is superb !

Day 1 game is at Hyatt Regency Golf located within the city itself. It's a walk-only 9 holes par-30 course. Nice shorty to loosen our muscles and fine tuning the swings!

The aftermath of Merapi eruption last year is still visible. This scene is on the way to Magelang.

Day 2 game is at Borobudur International Golf and Country Club. This is in Magelang, about an hour's drive from Yogya. Own by the militer but managed by Jababeka. Nice and easy course. Repeatable.

Eventhough it was raining, we managed to visit the Borobudur, a 9th-century Mahayana Buddhist monument near Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia. The monument comprises six square platforms topped by three circular platforms, and is decorated with 2,672 relief panels and 504 Buddha statues. A main dome, located at the center of the top platform, is surrounded by 72 Buddha statues seated inside perforated stupa.

Evidence suggests Borobudur was abandoned following the 14th-century decline of Buddhist and Hindu kingdoms in Java, and the Javanese conversion to Islam. Worldwide knowledge of its existence was sparked in 1814 by Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, then the British ruler of Java, who was advised of its location by native Indonesians. Borobudur has since been preserved through several restorations. The largest restoration project was undertaken between 1975 and 1982 by the Indonesian government and UNESCO, following which the monument was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Borobudur is still used for pilgrimage; once a year Buddhists in Indonesia celebrate Vesak at the monument, and Borobudur is Indonesia's single most visited tourist attraction.

At last, Day 3 is at the famous Merapi Golf !

Yeah...only at Merapi buggies are allowed on the fairway, tbox and green ;-) . Nice course with it's own unique character. Always trust what your caddy says...regardless of what you see and feel ! After shocking 1st nine performance (dogil tak mau dongar cakap kedi !!!), 2nd nine baru berapi di Merapi !!!!!

We can't see the top of Merapi from the course...i'd say it's becoz we're too near (abt 8km) and the visibility is covered by the clouds. But we definitely can see the laluan lahar dingin...carved out right next to the course !

Ahh...makan lagi !

Well, for me, it's my first time. 14 points all together. Except for 2 points, the rest didn't even feel anything...i don't even know the needle was in ! The other 2 points felt like the jabs that you normally get before tooth extraction...isssshhhhhh !!!!!

InsyaAllah my elbow can get better in due time...watch-out ! Sapa2 yg dah makan 5henggit wa...better get ready ;-)

HTC Sensation

What to do...it lasted only a brief 3 months before i gave-up!!! That's HTC Sensation using Android 2.3.

Here's the problems:

The unit get hot at times - for no known reason...nothing new installed. It just get so hot that i don't want to put it in my pocket.
battery life - sucks...i've to carry Mili powerbank around to make sure i got enuf juice to last me thru a typical day...and i don't put myself as heavy user...probably light-medium ;-)
camera, eventhough 8MPs, can get better in terms of handling. You've to have everything working in your favor to ensure an acceptable result !
signal...lousy at best ! I always compare the signal rate with my wife's NOkia...mind says NO SIGNAL and hers is gleaming full of barrrrssss ! And both of us are using the same Green service provider !
Wi-Fi connection...it was fine the first few weeks of usage until (this is my suspect) an auto update was done to the phone and suddenly i couldn't get connections to certain type of Wireless APs while having no problem whatsoever with other types. Hmmm...was thinking of reverting to the previous version, but am not sure of how to do it. Not much help available from internet. Not much help either from the vendor @ MidValley. Masa nak jual ...abang no problem, any problem abang angkat mari sini, kita kasi settle ! ... wa angkat pi sana dia kasi tau wa...aiya, itu kita tak bole tolong wooo...kita tarak tau punya. Customer lain pun ada komplen itu macam jugak...kita suruh angkat pi sana Low Yat la...ada HTC service center !!!!! ppppprrrrraaaaaahhhh...

Here's what i like (actually more to Android as compared to HTC):

Availability of free apps @ Market. A lot of choices to waste your time on the phone ;-)
I like the 4.3-inch screen. Sizeable enuf to do some light reading and yet easy to carry.
very responsive...maybe due to the dual-core 1.2GHz processor and 768MB RAM
micro-SD support ~ definitely a plus plus point compared to the bitten fruit.

I'm still using it for on-the-go light work, light reading, and call via Viber !

Now this look very tempting ;-)

My Samsung Galaxy Tab rocks !!!
I think HTC is the culprit...as per numerous complaints on the net. Android is very good. But now i'm on BB OS 7...hopefully a good review later on...

Pangkor Family Day 2011

A number of plans were made for this year's company trip...Ho Chin Minh la, Medan la, itu la, ini la...finally jadi family trip to Pangkor Island Beach Resort. Ok la tu, at least dapat bawak family gi jalan-jalan.

We, i.e. my family, started a day earlier than the rest. We took the opportunity to pay a visit to atok and wan kat Sedim. Sempat makan durian pokok Nol. Sodap gak. Early Friday morning, we left Sedim for Lumut Jetty. Reached there on the dot for 11am ferry to Pangkor. Only our family in that ferry...yang lain missed by a few minutes.

Weather not so friendly to us. Hujan and hazy the whole day. Well, since we're already on the island, buat la apa yang patut to enjoy the three days there.

Dah sampai awal, wa la jadi organizer...all 9 rooms ready for occupation !

The welcoming serenade...kalau kat sekolah dulu it's called band lutut !

There's a sign in the villa - no children policy...siap kena sign agreement masa check-in. Tapi kan...katil depa bagi is single-bed...combined dua. Siap selimut asing2 !!!!! apa rahhhhhhh !

But i like the enclosed outdoor shower and the built-in bathing tub. The overall setup is "repeatable" - except for the bed !!!

Eventhough it's raining, no wind blowing oneee....aiya...3 hari duk kat situ, takde angin bertiup macam kat tepi pantai kat tempat lain...malam pun tak berangin. Pelik tapi benar !

Night activities - mini funfair. Nasib baik Kimi managed to drop the ring onto the bottle after 2 hours of trying, kalau tidak, wa ingat brader jaga funfair tu kena overtime laaa...

Pro anglers ni asalkan duk tepi air je...maka keluar lah segala peralatan...macam doremon. Tetiba je rod ada, mata kail ada, itu ada, ini ada....ish ish ish. Hebat, dapat gak 4 ekor ikan kerong...tak luntur semangat bila earlier brader jaga recreation center tu cakap dah 3 bulan tak pernah dapat sekor pun ikan kat beach situ. Well done !

Weather on second day agak memberangsangkan...even better on third day. Aminnn.

My rating for food here is .... mmmmm... for lack of better words...lousy. Seriously, kalau my gerombolan of 26 paxs say the food is no good, it means really not good. Selection is ok cumanya tasteless. Maybe tukang masak selsema kot at that time, or wa yang selsema ???

Hornbills berkeliaran kat resort ni...siap tolong guest makan lagi !

The wave here is quite high...now i remember...sometime 15 or 16 years ago, i've been to this resort. The name was Pan Pacific Pangkor or something like that. Wa hilang spec dalam this kind of wave...on day 1. The next two days wa pakai sunglasses siang malam...hahaha.

Snorkelling time. After a round-the-island boat cruise, we stopped by s'where for snorkelling tapi ayaq hijau kelabu. Ikan bilis ada la...nothing beats Redang so far.

Of course there's a short "shopping" break during the cruise. Apa lagi...ibu2 bergegassssssss !

Teringat zaman daulu daulu...canoening and kayaking is in my blood. Wa masuk la geng2 yang layak naik stage kalau ada kompetisi kayuh mengayuh ni...champion kat Pangkor in 1983...kat Langkawi in 1984...that was then....

Alhamdulillah, selamat balik ke mainland after 50.5 hrs (according to the printout on the parking ticket). And reached home @ 1630 hrs. Ptg ni nak ke Perlis plakkkk....

Bandung 07'11

Friends...hard to come by and hard to shake loose...the ones that i have ni tak tau la kategori mana ! Nak berjalan saja kereja ! @#@!#$ hehehe...this time around, after much nagging ;-), sampai la kami ke Bandung. Due to bad timing on MAS for KL-BDO and not that keen to go with AK, we took Garuda. First time flying with Garuda, not bad. KL - CGK early in the morning and sewa van to BDO. So that means sempat la seround before sampai Bandung....pandai PM buat arrangement.

As usual, landing je, brader tu pun mula la....lapo la woi, nak makan kat mana??? We ended up at Sederhana restoran at rest area on Jakarta-Cikampek hiway.

Our first stop for this outing is at Karawang International Golf Club. Menarik jugak. About 1 hour from CGK. Another hour or so to BDO. There're 3 X 9s here. Friendly course. Yes, repeatable !

Second course is Mountain View. About 30 mins from our apartment. Nice and expensive course ! New clubhouse (the last time i was there, the clubhouse was a temporary one). Nama pun mountain...sekodi hilang bola !!! Anyway, repeatable !

Third and final course in this tour is Padang Golf Bandung Indah. About 45 mins from hotel. Sampai2 je, PM dah tanya drebar, "Jauh tak kalau nak ke Giri Gahana course?"...kami semua terkejut tengok clubhouse (standard2 Medan je! - terkejut sampai lupa ambik gambo!) tu sebab PM dah mengorak langkah berjaga-jaga nak lari ke tempat lain. Tapi bila masuk dalam, jengok padang, rasa2nya course OK...so kita orang continue. Turn out to be very friendly course and very d'repeatable.

Aston Braga is our lepak place. Right on Braga City Walk...tongah2 pokan Bandung. Standard apartment setup, good price for 3 bedrooms with breakfast. Free WiFi. Mmmm...repeatable.

Trip to Bandung and no shopping??? Tak mungkinnnn...brader tu siap beli luggage bag baru kat sana !

Europe (Paris - London)

Our planned tour of Europe (touch n go style ;-) is ON after one time delay by Reliance. From KLIA by Oman Air via Muscat to Paris. Total 21 pax from KL and 2 more joining in Paris for a total of 23 pax. Nice group to travel with.

The tour starts from Paris (2 nites), and one nite each at Geneva, Bern, Cologne, Amsterdam and ends in London. All together, 6 countries and sore butts !!! Hehehe...

Paris, France

Landed Paris as scheduled @ 0820hrs and straight away went for the city tour. Yang tak bestnya, hari hujan. Temp was about 15C.

Rain or shine, since we're already here in Paris, might as well go for it...Arch de Triomphe, Eifel Tower, etc etc.

This time around, i managed to get up the Eifel tower. Magnificient view from the second floor veiwing area. Worth queing to go up.

Burung gagak seperti biasa berkeliaran menjalankan aktiviti jualan...mari abang, mari kakak, murah murah. 5 satu Euro....hahaha. Pandai plak dia orang cakap melayu...maknanya dah berkapal-kapal orang kita melawat ke sana.

As expected, tak sah kalau pi Paris tak shopping ! So, kita orang pun ke Lafayette. Tiba-tiba je... adik2, akak2, ibu2 semua trussss hilang...dah pandai la pulok berjalan sendiri !!!!!

Lunch kat kedai kebab...sodappp tapi kurang pedas. Lain kali kena bawak cabai melaka sendiri ;-)

Geneva, Switzerland

After two days kat Paris, we make way for Switzerland...Geneva and Bern. Cantik scenery kat sini. Distance about 550km...tersengguk-sengguk dalam bas!

City tour in Geneva...UN, ICCR, Lake Geneva, Rolex, Tissot, Viktorinox, etc etc. Very nice scenery, weather pun very good...about 20C temp. Tapi ada jugak unsur2 pickpocket etc. Wa nyaris kena...nasib baik selamat.

Glacier 3000, Switzerland

On the way from Geneva to Bern (about 160km), we made a stop at Glacier 3000. Glacier 3000 is a company that operates several cable cars and ski lifts in the region of the Diablerets in western Switzerland. The main cable car was opened in 1964. It connects the Col du Pillon (1,546m) from the Scex Rouge (2,950 m). This place is a glacier located in the Swiss Alps. Weather is cold for us although it is summer. Temp kat bawah is about 10C but once up at the highest station, the temp drops to about 3C. And with very cold wind. Beku la sekejap kat atas Alps tu !

Bern, Switzerland

Cantik pemandangan kat Switzerland ni. For me it is not indah khabar dari rupa...it's real. Tapi temp dah mula naik...i think about 24C...dah mula berasap since we all pakai thick clothing for glacier walking earlier today.

Barang2 mahal...mineral water 500ml is 3.70E per bottle. Beli je la...jgn nak convert currency !

Public transportation is good. Always ada saja bus or tramp yang lalu ...almost non-stop ! Wa rasa for a city of just about 150000 people, the system is good.

No wonder my bag is heavy, macam2 ada...charger ada 5 ketul !

Heidelberg, Germany

Next stop after Bern is Heidelberg in Germany. About 290km away and 5 sore-butt hours later, we reached the intended location...castle yg dah nak runtuh ! Wa pun tak faham sangat tapi katanya that castle is on high ground (can't remember the height) and ada the largest wine barrel in the world kat dalam castle tu...

Cologne, Germany

Another 3 hours or so, we were in Koln or Cologne. Terkenal dengan old cathedral with highest twin towers at about 150m tall. Built sometime from 12th century until 19th century...

Patutla...sepatah haram pun wa tak paham, beside museum, the only common word is shopping ! No wonder "cakap jerman" is meant for "apa crita bro...wa x paham pun ! Lu cakap jerman ka?" hahaha.

Our breakfast for 7 days...croissant and scrambled egg or half-boiled egg !!! Depa tak reti masak nasik lemak...wa ingat nak bukak kelas masak kat europe la...sure laku punyer!!!

Amsterdam, Nederland

Amsterdam, 260km away from Cologne is the next destination. Along the way, kita orang berenti for lunch picnic kat rest area.

While the others sebok melawat cheese and clog things, wa sneaked out pi ambik gambar of the beautiful summer boating scenes at the nearby river. Canggih...jeles wa tengok...

River cruise kat Amsterdam...cantik. Nak tau cantik macam mana, pi la sendiri !

Kebab lagi...but this is better than the one in Paris...pedas sikit ! Baru kick ! Mana tak kick...9.5E per plate ........

Brussel, Belgium

210km away from Amsterdam is Brussel, capital of Belgium. Nothing much here...temp pun 35C...masak den !!!

From Brussel, we took EuroStar train to London. About 2 hrs and 15 min after leaving Brussel, we docked in London St. Pancras International Station. Tak sedar pun lalu bawah English Channel. Tau tau dah sampai...

London, UK

Dinner kat Lagenda Restoran @ London Holliday Villa. Akhirnya dapat sambal belacan but my rating for the food here is just so-so. Weather is nice, temp around 15C.

One nite in London is at Novotel Excel at Dockyard area. Tempat paling wa tak suka but since it's a group thing, rela jer laaa. Dah la tu, pelik betul room layout, toilet asing dari shower area...hampeh betollll !

Standard breakfast affairs...croissant and egg. Lunch kami pekena curry laksa kat area Chinatown.

Ehem...kodai blum bukak lagi adik n akak oiiii !

Well, finally the time has arrived for goodbye London...From shopping at Oxford St straight to Heathrow and home via Muscat on Oman Air. Alhamdulillah, sampai rumah about 11.30pm dengan selamatnya.

Why jam @ hiway ?

Everytime cuti, tak kisah la cuti apa asalkan cuti panjang sikit e.g. long weekend etc etc, maka akan bermula mimpi ngeri. Actually for everybody, it'll start off with happy mood...nak balik kampong, nak pi cuti tepi laut, kat pulau, atas bukit dan macam2 lagi. The moment you enter into the hiway, that mood will slowly dies off...crawling with the rest of the vehicles on the road.

No doubt there'll be many vehicles during the holidays but that, IMHO, doesn't warrant such bad jam...i.e. 6 hours from KL to Penang, 7.5 hours from Kulim to KL etc etc. Of course it'll take longer time than normal but not that looonnngggg.

My observation on the reasons why this happened everytime cuti panjang:

On L1 (Lane 1 - Emergency Lane): all those drivers yang kurang tahap kesabaran, dah boring sangkut, or memang bebal akan drive macam tak de masaalah at this lane. Akan himpit masuk semula ke L2 jika sangkut kat depan on L1 and akan marah those in L2 kalau drebar kat L2 tak sempat (or sengaja) tak bagi ruang untuk dia masuk. Bila the driver on L1 ni himpit drebar on L2, maka si drebar on L2 pun brake, so drebar belakang L2 ni pun turut brake and this will go on and on probably affecting a long stretch of vehicles on L2...this include heavy vehicles such as lori treler dan bas (those yang drebar baguih duk kat L2...ada gak drebar heavy vehicles yang maintain macho kat L3...mmm L4 pun kekadang ada gak). It'll take some time for these heavy vehicles to gain momentum / speed yang sesuai di L2 sebelum kena brake tadi. Abis sangkut semua yang kat belakang...kenapa...pasai ada mangkuk masuk dari L1 to L2 !

On L2 (Lane paling kiri for slow and heavy vehicles): Sekarang dah jadi lorong memotong. Why??? Sebab L3 dah jadi lorong speed joget mak inang and L4 dah jadi lorong lenggang mak limah ! So, kalau nak memotong, silakan ke L2 !

L3 (Lorong tengah di hiway 3-lorong): Lorong ni dah jadi kegemaran drebar-drebar hiway kat tanah Malaya ni untuk drive sambil bersantai - doesn't matter ada kereta lain ke tidak di kiri kanan lorong awak...dia akan maintain macho kat lane ni...biarlah org lain cakap apa pun...no hal one. Kalau ada orang belakang hon suruh ke tepi, dia buat dek saja or worst still, dia buat2 tekan brek bila angin takdak ribut pun takdak. Maka sangkut lah L3 ! Dah la tu, kekadang plak ada slower lorry yang nak overtake another slower lorry...maka depa dua ni akan beriringan untuk beberapa ketika yang mengikut perasaan drebar2 lain kat belakang yang terpaksa folo je tu is like berejam-jam...fuhhhh

L4 (lorong memotong): For some reason, this L4 akan jadi lorong lenggang mak limah bila jam...terlalu ramai drebar yang akan maintain this lane kononnya laju tapi sebenarnya dia folo the flow but at varying speed...ada yg gap dgn keta depan yang sebesar jumbo jet, ada gak yg ketapi bole u-turn in between dan macam2 lagi...maka sangkutlah L4 !

So guys, itulah sebab2 mengapa hiway kita unusually jam masa cuti...hepi driving !

Alhamdulillah...bumbung kena ribut dah diganti dengan yang baru. But as usual, what started off as a simple roof replacement dah jadi penyakit berjangkit...

Waktu tu la nampak rain-gutter dah rosak, main roof dah 30 tahun, kaler tak cantik, kayu senget etc etc etc...last last wa gak yang senget...puas print gambar agong...hehehe

mmmm...dah bosar dah anak bujang den...tup tap tup tap dah 19 thn. And still manja dengan atok dia...

Wa rasa jeles plak tengok orang2 kampong wa kat opis pakai henfon yang boleh gesek2, usap2, pastu tergelak syok sendiri. Wa pun dengan bangganya mengupgradekan senjata wa...maka sekarang wa berada di level one learning curve HTC...terkial-kial. Several things that i missed most kat BB...bbm, simplicity in taking photos, one-hand ops and of course the ease of emailing.

Anyway, sempat jugak KMG belanja kita orang tengok Kungfu Panda 2 last week. Sodap gak cerita dia tapi quite short...tau tau dah abissss.

In between meetings earlier this week, we managed to squeeezzzze in a 3-game "championship". Venue 1 @ Permaipura, Venue 2 @ Black Forest and Venue 3 @ Southern Hills, Thailand.

Finally, after a long hiatus, wa managed to be the new Champ !!!!! Hehehe, akan ku pegang and peram this title....Thanks guys for the companionship and the great sporting spirits.

Our expedition this time is to Terengganu untuk candat sotong. Ramai yang beriya-iya nak ikut...semua ahli2 kebal team memancing. Dah nak sampai time nak jalan, ada la pulak sorang dua yang kincinnnn...Anyway, kita tetap bergerak dengan mengimpot ahli dari Utara to make-up the numbers.

Bertolak petang Khamis with pit-stop kat East Coast Regional Operations Center. Kat situ sempat ahli-ahli buat last minute preparation untuk segala jenis kemungkinan yang bakal menunggu di tempat pertarungan. Ada yang buat perambut dawai, ada yang prepare perambut kaler-kaler...dan of course, ada gak yang hepi buat taik mata ! hehehe...macam tak biasa !

Perjalanan diteruskan ke KT pada pagi Jumaat. Seperti biasa, tuan rumah dah sediakan tempat lepak kat KT yang tak jauh dari jeti Losong. Kami naik bot sekitar 4pm terusss ke tapak sotong. Ada gak bot yang mengekor ke lubuk Pak Ali ni...dan tanpa disedari, dalam masa yang singkat, bersepah bot kat that area yang pada mulanya kosong !

Hasil agak menarik untuk trip kali ni...macam2 ada...sotong kecik, sotong besaq, ikan kecik, ikan besaq semua ada. Hasil terbaik is kaci sekitar 4+ KG. Cuaca pun agak bagus walaupun keadaan laut agak sikit bergelora.

Master chef dari Ganu seperti biasa menyediakan dinner terbaeeekkk...tomyam sotong yang baru naik tuh ! Sodappppp !!!

Inilah padahnya bila dah konyang...melangsit la pulok !

Sebahagian dari ahli-ahli dari Ganu tengah pekena late breakfast lepas turun dari bot. Hebat2 belaka dia orang ni..

Secara keseluruhannya, ekspedisi kali ni masuk kategori berjaya. Sotong ada, ikan pun ada. Seperti biasa, ahli2 dari Ganu ni memang teramat sporting...ponuhla tong ikan kita orang dengan hasil2 untuk dibawa pulang...terimakasih bro!

We were away in Kedah over the weekend attending Alia's wedding reception. On the way back to KL, we received a call from our neighbor...your car porch roof was blown away just now by heavy rain and very strong wind. Reaching home at about 8pm, what was left is just a small section of the roof...the rest was gone, some on the floor and some dangling above the car. Luckily no damage to other items. Another neighbor told me that it was the strongest mother nature's force that he has seen since staying here for the last 23 years. Alhamdulillah...kami semua selamat. Maybe it's time for some reno and touch-up works ;-)

The planned Surabaya trip took place during CNY holidays. Only three pengolof tegar and seorang pengikut yang menyertai rombongan for this trip. New location for all four of us...nice small reckie team for future entourage ! Our flight MH873 took-off slightly late but still managed to catch-up the ETA at SBY. Mesti pilot tekan minyak sampai berdiri !!! Flight duration is 2.5hrs.

I was quite surprised bila sampai kat Juanda International Airport @ SBY. It's the best airport that i've been to in Indonesia. It's a new complex ready in 2006 replacing the old terminal. It's about 20km on the south side of Surabaya in the Sidoarjo region. Comfortably organised and clean suitable to receive international visitors to East Java.

Our accomodation for this trip is at Somerset apartment. The unit setup is better than the apartment that we usually stayed in Jakarta i.e. Aryaduta but it lacks things such as mini-mart and cafe. It's located about 20 minutes from city center but close by to Bukit Darmo and Graha Famili golf courses. The 3-bedroom unit is suitable for 4 people. Overall, the apartment is a repeatable accomodation.

We stayed at Level 21 which gave us good view of Surabaya from very high up. Can see Masjid Agung, the biggest mosque in SBY, from our room. The city was quite quiet since it's CNY time. I think SBY is a good alternative to CGK - kurang macet, easy to move around from point to point and reasonable food and relaxation points.

Yes, very repeatable !

There are three well-known golf courses within SBY i.e. Bukit Darmo, Graha Famili and Ciputra. And there're 2 more highly-recommended courses about 1.5 - 2 hrs away from SBY i.e. Finna and Taman Dayu.

Our first game was at Finna Golf in Pasuruan. It's located some 30km from city center towards Malang. It shouldn't take more than 45 mins to travel 30km but the route has to go through Porong, a small town that was the center of Lapindo Mud incident. The tragedy started in 2006 and the mud is still flowing until today. Dah berapa kampung tengelam and relocated etc etc. Highway diverted thru the small Porong town causing the untold macet misery. Pi balik sangkut kat sini...waduuuhhhh !!!

Finna Golf Course is beatiful and scenic. Memang menarik to enjoy golf here walaupun sikit jauh. Kawasan berbukit dan berhutan sesuai untuk hentam sepuas hati. Makanan pun sodap kat sini. And hehehe...Game 1 kepunyaan wa ! Finna is definitely a repeatable course !

For the second game, we played at Bukit Darmo Golf (BDG) Club. It's just about 3km and 5 mins drive from Somerset. Tapi orang ramai sebab hari libur CNY. Sabar je lah. Nice clubhouse and nice course cumanya banyak rumah along the fairways.Tu yang mangkarrrrrr tu...wa phobia sikit kalau rumah dekat2 ni....apalagi hancus la...PM sapu second game. BDG is repeatable coz it's very near to town, good course (except for rumah2 yang agak dekat along the fairways).

SBY city is quite organised and teratur. Jalan kurang macet not like CGK but then probably it because hari libur dan ramai yang keluar out of town. We had dinner at Sederhana, just next to Somerset. Malam tu lepak kat lounge dengar live band. Before that sempat jugak tengok lion dance sempena CNY.

Our 3rd game was held at Graha Famili Golf club which is located next to BDG. From the look of the clubhouse, i think it's older than BDG but the food is good, pijat services is good, course is good...except for rumah yang terlalu dekat along the fairways...again...mampuih aku for the 3rd game....sedekah kat PM lagi !

Overall, SBY is repeatable.....good alternative to CGK yang sentiasa macet...

End of year 2010 was quite busy for us and we didn't manage to "escape" anywhere. As soon as the opportunity arises earlier this week, we managed to book a quick escape to Krabi using AirAsia Flight and Hotel package. And here's the results...

Krabi is about 1.5hrs by flight from KLIA. There're several

tourist area and one of them is Ao Nang Beach, which is about 30km and 30 mins by car from KBV - Krabi International Airport.

All flight procedures done on time...flight to and fro are also on time. That's great !

On the flight, i was having this imagination of beautiful cottage/chalet by the beach, and i can hear the splash of the wave hitting on the beach...

Tokojut den bilo sampai kat resort tu !!! Sebolah kelapa sawit and ladang gotah. Macam kat kampung kat Kedah ! Laaaa...dah la tu, memang topat resort ni monang "outstanding SECLUDED boutique"...memang jin pun maleh nak lepak kat sini...jauh dari segala bondo. Kita orang kena sewa motosikal plak nak gi jalan2. Tak sanggup jalan 4km poi balik ke town...even with shuttle services, the best is to rent motorbike. Merempit la kita orang kat Krabi !

The resort itself kira ok la. Bilik pun luas. Tapi description dalam internet...sekali baca memang menarik.
Dah sampai baru tergolek ! Well, apa nak buek, make the best saja la...

Ao Nang Beach town is a small tourist town. Macam Phuket but on a smaller scale. Just one main street. I quite like it...tak kecoh sangat, tak ramai sangat, price of goods and services pun quite reasonable.

I'd say that main tourist activities here is island hopping via available boat for rent, snorkeling, diving, fishing, kayaking and all the water activities. On land, apa lagi, massage la. Reasonable price and quality. Habis aktiviti laut, pi massage, abis massage, trusss makan...that's about it. Makanan halal is quite limited at the main street. We found two halal eateries, satu nice resto and the other one a small makan place with a few tables. Waktu malam ada halal hawkers with variety of food selections along the main street, so food wise, quite easy kalau tak memilih sangat. Kalau rajin, you can venture further out from town and boleh jumpa a few more halal eateries.

We didn't do any water activities this time...lepak kat darat saja. We tried a few massage places...and we tried fish spa. We've never done it before but in the spirit of "blum cuba blum tau", we tried. Linda lasted a whole 3 seconds !!! And she's the one yang very adamant in trying. I managed a "respectable" 8 minutes. Any second longer than that, probably i'll get arrested for breaking the pond and doing fish-stampede !!! Abis tahan dah tu...goli...rasa macam lintah dalam sawah naik geletek kaki...damn i'm still feeling it now !

Overall, the town is a nice small tourist town. Visiting again...well probably but definitely not going to the same "outstanding SECLUDED boutique" resort !!! No no no...we'll get something on the main street so that it's easy to jalan2, makan and do some tourist shopping.

I think i've been to 1-Utama mall at least a thousand times so far. Sometimes i was there 3 to 4 times in a day...being near to my house and having all the necessary "stores" in one location is very convenient to me ! But since a few moons ago, these are the common sights at 1-Utama...escalator not working and more closed shops...bak kata Wak Ketari in Jangan Pandang Belakang Congkak 2 - what rock is cooking ?

Time really can fly one! Orang pi haji dah pun balik...now dah 1432 Hijrah...and tahun orang putih pun dah sampai almost to the end. We're going +1 in age, hopefully the wiser we'll be. So did we manage to keep all the new year's resolution done a year ago? How about new ones? Will it be better than last year's? How do we go about creating values in our lives for this 1432h and/or this 2011? Have we done enough so far? I think for average Malaysia, makan minum memang cukup. How about makanan and minuman untuk rohani kita? Any improvements? What about golf...fishing...hopefully will be better. What about anak2? Ada kemajuan dalam akademik, dalam pendidikan ugama, sopan santun? Have we done enough in each and every aspects of our lives? Or kita perlu pertingkatkan usaha? Pikiaqlah sendiri...

Alhamdulillah...finally we're back home after being stranded for three days @ Jakarta @ CGK. Bencana letusan Gunung Merapi membuatkan kami terdampar selama 3 extra days di Jakarta. Walaupun the weather is perfect in Jakarta, still most airlines suspended ops for safety reasons.

Anyway, as usual, berbekalkan tiket KLM, our outbound flight to CGK was routine except that kat KLIA dah tak de train lagi plying between main and satellite terminal. Sekarang pakai bas - temporary until March 2011. And this time around, i've decided to drive and park kat KLIA...not knowing that the car will be there for 6 nites !!!

Ketibaan kami disambut mesra oleh HE SBY and wife !!!

Kesihatan wa dah agak menurun from Monday 01112010 but since tiket dah beli, apa lagi, belasah saja la. Apakan daya, sampai saja CGK, wa trussss down ! Domam, stomach cram, batuk etc etc. Untuk kesekian kalinya, tempat penginapan is at Aryaduta Apartment, Semanggi. Easy access and convenience count !

Very nice course...complete with 2 x 18s...it's a definite repeatable status!

Malangnya...wa pewai di Guelis ! Tapi wa sempat jugak menang for Day 1 ! Hehehe...

Game for Day 2 is @ Rancamaya Golf & Country Club

I'd rate this course as another repeatable ! Walaupun wa kecundang (tercorot sekali) sebab demam and main tak habis, tapi the course is nice. Weather pun tak la panas sangat.

I spent most of the time kat Aryaduta saja for this trip. Really down, makan pun tak lalu. Looking forward to go back.

On 06112010, berita tak best ... flight kensel dari Jakarta due to Merapi ! Waduh...

After PM exhausted all efforts, maka kami pun tersadai di bandara. Nasib baik PM sempat recall the two vans and we managed to get place at Milinium (and later on changed to Arya)

Pagi Ahad @ Ambasaddor Mall...masing2 hoping for good news from PM while having breakfast @ DunkinDonut. Finally i got the reconfirmation mail from KLM....guess what ??? The flite in on 9.11.2010@ 7.25pm. Mak aiiiii....lamanya lagi !

Apa lagi...aktiviti utama ialah makan, makan, dan makan....cuma wa je yang tak berselera...turun 4 kg siol for this trip ! Hehehe...bole pi selalu to reduce weight ! What a bloooody good excuse, huh !!!

To fill-up time, we decided to continue golfing...game seterusnya is @ Imperial Klub, Lippo Karawaci...and for 36 holes ! Wa kantoi lagi...pewai...pukul buat syarat saja.

The final game is played @ Pantai Indah Kapuk Golf Course. New to some of us but ada boya-boya darat group ni yang dah main kat sini. Another repeatable course. Lapang and berangin...easy course...and yang paling penting, wa menang....hehehe.

Finally, we were at bandara again and this time really going to take-off ! After check-in, kami pi lepak tempat biasa while waiting for the departure time. And after paying RM 279.00 parking fees for 6 nites, and one hour driving...wa sampai rumah !!!! Amin.

Kita orang sempat menjengah hobi lama last weekend kat K. T'ganu. Cuaca before berlepas amat menggerunkan (ribut) tapi semasa di laut, cuaca paling gentle wa pernah rasa. Well, mine is actually Astro Bengong ! Since getting this byond thingy dari masa world cup hari tu until now, i've made 6 reports...masa pakai astro biasa dulu, sekali pun tak pernah call astro ! What happened is that setiap kali hujan waktu petang, the STB will give all dashes and kat tv tulis service is currently not available or s'thing like that. So, the whole evening (tak kisah la hujan dah berenti ke tidak) bawak ke malam sampai ke pagi esoknya, tak dapek la den nengok tv yang dah memang den kena bayar tiap2 bulan ! By about 10am esok pagi, tetiba saja, menatang STB tu elok balik and tetiba astro macam tak de masaalah...elok je. Hampessss. Now, i'm waiting and counting the 48hrs service response from astro technical team...2 jam and counting and in the meantime...tak de la tv...just hoping pagi esok dia elok sendiri...macam ada toyol pulak jaga ! Bak kata Che Det, "dah lama dah..." tapi service bingai sama saja ! And i'm paying thru out the 12 mth contract.....how fair is fair !

The BGG Golf Tour 2010 @ Jakarta - finally took place from 18 to 21st July 2010 with 7 gutsy players. Yang tak ikut serta tu memang penuh dengan alasan ... 2002 excusessss ! Anyway, fun we had!

Scenic view @ Riverside. Overall club and course kira ok la...tapi kalau bole tak nak datang sini lagi for golf....ironically, i played better here than the other 2 courses...jiwa kacau !

On the way to Perlis last Monday, kami sempat singgah untuk berentap di ClearWater Sanctuary Golf Resort. Interesting course. Banyak ayaq but not that many water crossings required. I put it as friendly walaupun quite long. Repeatable if cheaper...now RM 400/flite all in. No kd. Bole la nak tukar angin sekali sekala !!!

After main, makan kat gerai kat depan club entrance (a few hundred meters away towards Ipoh). Sedap, cepat dan reasonable price.

We managed to squeeeeeezzz in a “one-niter” in PD recently. Quite a nice place with private pool to each unit.

Finally, wa sampai jugak ke Harvard… the golf course @ Sg Petani, not the Harvard U kat Amerika. Quiet place, just a few of us on the course. Cheap rate…bolehlah nak membelasah or dibelasah !

Oh yes…Bukit Tinggi – Berjaya Hills Golf. Suasana yang berlainan dari normal. Kalau nak tukar angin, can go there for a round of golf !

Golf Tour d'Phuket

Tarikh Kejadian: 18 ~ 20 Jun 2010
Ahli: Dari 8, 4 terkucil. Yang tinggal ialah CD, WanChamp, Abg J and yours truly.
Transport: our favourite Toyota Commuter Abg Din
Route: KL - Markas Wilayah Utara @ Bandar DarulAman - Black Wood Hill - Sadao - Patalung - Phuket
About 500 + km and 7 hours from Bukit Kayu Hitam to Phuket.

Day One:

For this trip to Phuket, we pushed off from Bukit Kayu Hitam @ 10pm. Immediately after the immigration routine, we stopped by for late dinner @ Danok...just a few steps from the border. Actually this dinner is to make us sleep in the coach macam ular sawa kekenyangan ! After about 5 stops, both short and long, we finally reached Phuket at 6.30am.

Stopped for subuh prayer at Nurool Ebadeyah Mosque @ Google Map 8.11914, 98.33620. Then breakfast kat halal restaurant just a few meters away from the mosque.

After breakfast, semua mata dah celik and bermulalah perang mulut psychoing each other for first venue game at Red Mountain Golf Club.

Kelab cantik tapi rate mahal ! Repeatable course tapi sebab rate terlampau mahal, maybe not...unless ada sponsor !

Fantastic hill t-box overlooking the green downhill. Ada juga kengkawan buat lawak pakai bomoh siam at this par 3 hole. T-off pi hutan, bounced kat pokok mati, bola jatuh kat green and rolled towards the hole...and 1 bird here...bawak-bawak berenti la main pakai bomoh woi...he he he

Our pit stop for first nite is R-Mar Resort and Spa at Patong Beach. Nice hotel tapi terperosok kat back lane sikit but just walking distance to the action center on main Patong Street.

Patong beach main street and Bangla Street (yeap...no pun intended !) Ada a few halal food outlets here so makan tak susah. We had lamb kabsa and all the "accessories" the first nite. Melayu makan makanan Arab kat Siam. Sodap jugak...recommended dinner place if u're at Patong area main road.

Sebelum makan, sempat jugak pi beach...topless beach kot kalau tengok mat salleh tu !!!

Day Two:

Early in the morning on Day 2, we checked out from R-Mar and checked in at Mission Hills Golf Resort. About 20 minutes from Patong area. The setup is very grand and so is the price. However, due to the on going maintenance work on a number of the fairways, we got a unlimited golf package. Apa lagi, main 36 lubang la for the second day. Surprisingly, it's not that tiring sebab buggy sorang satu so boleh masuk sampai ke tepi bola ! And furthermore, the weather is wonderful, angin baik punya just nice to cool down. Main 36 holes pun Wan Champ sapu jugak ! Memang tak dapat dinafikan lagi kehebatan dia...siap kau !

The problem with playing in Thailand is we cannot have meals at the clubhouse. So kena la lari keluar for lunch at a local halal place. As usual, abg Din dah ready to take us out for quick lunch before we continue with second 18. We went to a nearby conservation place - BangRong AgroTourism. Nasi goreng seafood. Sodap !

This time around, we managed to dip at the swimming pool...dapatla orang tua2 main-main kat swimming pool without having to look after the kids...what a relief ! And we practically had the pool to ourselves...fantastic !

Day Three:

Our final round is at Blue Canyon Country Club. Elegant club. Mat salleh sesaja...and damn expensive ! But the course is very nice and it belongs to Wan Champ lagi! @#@$#%^$&*!!!

Well, all good things will have to come to an end sometime...we packed up from Blue Canyon at about 1.00pm Thai time and was across the Phuket bridge to mainland Thailand in under 30 minutes. A few stops and some 500 plus kilometers after that, we reached Danok at 9pm Malaysia time. And for those in KL, we reached home safely at 4am on Monday. Alhamdulillah, no untowards incident. Summary...better golfing in Indonesia !
And Wan Champ is still the person to beat in the next tour...well done bro ! Aku bangga dapat main satu flite with a single handicapper !

Fishing @ Ganu

Another fishing trip for our group. This time in Terengganu with the Ganu pros. Lama dah tak berekspedisi sekali saing grup Ganu. Last sekali masa kat Kenyir dulu. This time our outing started on 5th June sampai 7th June. 3 hari kat laut tuuu !

Day 1: 7.30am kami mula bergerak dari KL...2 kereta with 5 ahli sahaja disebabkan beberapa ahli yang terkucil kerana commitment kerja. Breakfast kat R&R Temerloh. Orang punya la ramai, nak bernyawa pun susah ! Cuti sekolah...adus, salah timing ! We stopped for lunch kat Pantai Kelulut (Google Earth at 5.16478, 103.23347), about 20 min from KT. Sini orang tak ramai, senang nak beristirehat sekejap sambil pekena sotong and ikan goreng tepung...

Sampai kat markas KT tepat jam 3 petang. Abg Rambo and Bro Amir dah menunggu kami dengan senyuman lebar. Si Kaki Besi pun dah ada menunggu kami kat markas. Dia sampai dari Kuala Berang - balik hantar family dulu ke rumah mertua! Lepas selesaikan perkara wajib, kami pun bertolak ke jeti. Ada jugak yang tertinggal itu dan ini, so Bro Amir pun bawak kita orang singgah ke kedai pancing berdekatan. Then proceed to jetty. Kali ni naik bot kat jeti bawah jambatan...check it out at Google Earth 5.32159, 103.12609.

Lebih kurang 6pm, taiko Pro Ganu pun sampai ke jeti...lengkap dengan senjata untuk berekspedisi. Kalau dia tak datang, kemungkinan besar kita orang terpaksa tarik diri from this outing...dia masak sodap, tak dapek poi ke laut tanpa Pro Ganu aka Fishing Chef ni ! Kita orang pun terus punggah barang ke dalam bot and push-off from jetty. Immediate photo kat atas ialah gambar bot yang kita orang naik. He he he, 3 tingkat tuuuh !...naik tumpang nak cross ke bot kami yang sebenarnya kat sebelah dia ! Anyway, bot kali ni pun ok in term of size. Tekong rajing ubah tempat kalau tak de yang teringinkan umpang kita orang. Overall ok, cuma tak de toilet...so paham-paham la !

Heran jugak dengan aksi pro PD ni...dia nak terjun laut ke dia nak mancing ?

Ooo...ada hasil rupanya...kerong sekor...perlu diumumkan di sini bahawa pro PD dah naikkan seekor kerapu 1kg+ pakai apoolo # 12 sahaja...mungkin kerapu tu sakit kot, nak gi spital ! Anyway, walaupun gambar sebagai bahan bukti tak sempat nak diambil, kami dah tukar nama pro PD ke Krapollo ! He he he, jangan mare bro !

Trip kali ni diikuti oleh 2 novice...Superman and Al-Daud. Tujuan utama ialah untuk menimba pengalaman di laut...malangnya, hancussss...lagi banyak tido dari berjaga...dua2 orang mabuk laut dari mula sampai balik ! kesian...

Abg J ni tak mabuk...dia style cool...kat mana duduk pun boleh layan mata !

Si Kaki Besi ni tak yah cerita la...tengah rancak berborak pun dia boleh hanyut !

Trip kali ni ada kelainan sikit...kami dapat tengok cara-cara bubu digunakan di laut.

Day 2 - pagi-pagi lagi lepas breakfast, tekong dah start enjin dan menuju ke kawasan pembubuan...ada ke word pembubuan ? Crew yang lain sebok dengan persediaan bubu...buka ikatan, pasang umpan, ikat tali ke marker dan sebagainya.

22 bubu dilepaskan satu persatu ala-ala Deadly Catch !

By 4 pm, kami bergerak semula untuk mengutip bubu yang dah dipasang pagi tadi. Tak berapa banyak hasil tapi masih tetap berhasil. Banyak dapat kerisi. At least we got first hand experience menggunakan bubu di laut.

In between the setting and collecting time for the bubu trap, hari teramatlah panas. Kami pasang kanvas buat bumbung...wa sempat bertafakur dan terfikir...apalah aku duk buat tengah2 laut waktu panas2 ni ? Pi main golf lagi baguih ! Kalau masa kat padang golf pulak masa tengah panas selalu pulak tertanya-tanya...siapala yang ajak aku main tengahhari buta ni ??? Hai, serba tak kena...patutlah golap den ni hah...semuanya yang panas !

Sambil duk mencongak nasib, Krapollo menyampuk....den ada nampak tembikai tadi ! Fuh, di saat panas yang macam nak meletup ni, teringat pulak kat tembikai yang sedang kedinginan dalam tong ais tu... apa lagi, si Kaki Besi terbang ke tong ais dan balik dalam sekelip mata sambil memegang sebijik tembikai dan tersengeh macam kambing dapat pucuk! meleleh ayaq lioq aku...Krapollo tiba-tiba pulak dah ready dengan pisau...ntah mana dia sapu...maka kami pun belasahlah tembikai...nikmaaaattt

Habis pekena tembikai, Chef pulok buat announcement "nasik doh ready nih...mari makang !" Sebat pulok ikan goreng, sambal and nasik panas....tersadai...

Dari segi hasil, menarik. Banyak jugak ikang kasar-kasar kami dapat kali ni. Kerapu 1kg ~ 4kg, kaci 5kg, jenahak, tanda dan macam-macam lagi.

Wa sempat merekodkan bahan bukti hasil tangkapan trip kali ni.

Overall, hasil kali ini memuaskan. Dapat merasa sorang sikit !

Apa-apa pung, langit tak selalu cerah...awan golap...maka tekong pun bawak bot ke tempat selamat.

Day 3 - tak lama kami kat laut. Wa tak tahan sakit pinggang, sakit bontot sebab dah lama duduk, kesian kat ahli yang mabuk yang lagi banyak tido dari jaga, kesian kat kengkawan yang cakap pun dah merapu sebab penat, so we decided to go back earlier than schedule. After all, ikang pun dah ada sikit untuk bawak balik rumah, pengalaman pun dah ok...so about 3am, kami pun bergerak ke jeti.

Sampai jeti about 6.30am. Selepas upacara pembahagian hasil, kami pun berpisah dengan grup Ganu. Terimakasih team Ganu atas layanan yang istimewa yang telah diberikan kepada ahli dari KL dan kawasan sewaktu dengannya. Team KL pun bergerak pulang via Kuantan. Singgah markas Kuantan, mandi dsbnya...and terus bergerak. Alhamdulillah, tepat jam 4 pm, kami sampai ke KL.

Maka dengan itu, tamatlah ekspedisi mancing siri 4/10 @ Ganu !
